2018 Blogging Goals

I love blogging, it's why I've kept at it for so long. Last year I didn't keep hiyaitsashley updated quite as often as I'd have like to, and I want that to change in 2018. With that that in mind, today's post is going to be my 2018 blogging goals!

This year I want to really focus on my little corner of the internet, I love my blog so much and it's time I showed it more love, so this post is going to outline the things I want to focus on the most, and set some targets for the end of this year! I did a post kind of similar to this last year when my blog turned 3, looking at how far my blog had come, and where I wanted to take it, so if you want to read that, you can find it here.

A New Look

This is one that I've already been working on since the start of 2018. I've started by changing the layout of hiyaitsashley, as I had the same one for quite a long time, and although I loved it, and still do, it was time for a change. I've also added some new pages to my blog, (which can be found in the header bar), so I now have and 'About' page and a page called 'Work With hiyaitsashley' which is a page for brands and PRs to take a look at some of my previous collaborations, and see my stats, which I want to keep updated regularly. Keeping with the theme of a new look, one thing I am wanting to change and update this year is my blog banner, as it's cute, but I feel like it's time for a change. I'm not fantastic with photoshop or design software in general, so the banner is going to be a work on progress but I would like to get something that is a little more colourful ad quirky, but still on brand. I really like the design I have on my business cards, so I'm thinking somehing along those lines. I'm also wanting to edit my theme as I got to make it a little more interactive, and play around with the layout of my posts.

Keep Updated

This is one of my main goals for 2018, to keep my blog updated regularly. Last year I let my posting slip, I didn't post for the first few months, then was pretty good during the summer, and then towards the end of the ear it fizzled again. A lot of this was simply down schedule and timing, but for the most part the major reason was when I was at uni I was focusing primarily on getting assignments done, then during the summer I had so much free time I was posting regularly for months. Then September/October rolled around and the start of my final year at uni meant I was really busy with class or assignments, and when I wasn't I was too tired or I simply wasn't motivated and didn't have ideas. So this year I'm going to make sure I try and stick to a better schedule. I have 4-5 more months of uni left, and my dissertation to work on, so I'm going to try and get at least 1-2 posts out a week until summer, then more afterwards. I'm feeling a lot more motivated already for this year, so lets hope that keeps up!

Improve My Photography

Since the middle/end-ish of 2017 I began really working on making my blog photos better, and so far I am really happy with how they are turning out, so for 2018 I want to keep working on this. Towards the end of last year I began working with backdrops and props to improve my flatlays, and its something I am keen to keep working on into this year. I want to pick up some more backdrop options, and keep collecting and playing around with props to further enhance my photos. I've also been working to improve my editing, and so far I'm really liking how the photos are turning out, so that's a plus!

Last year I had the opportunity to work with some amazing brands and PRs on collaborations, and I would really like to continue to build on this into 2018. I appreciate every single collaboration I get offered, because I'm not a huge blogger, so for me it's really a sign that I'm doing well and my blog is going in the right direction. I worked on some amazing collaborations, including having my perfect night in with one of the my favorite places, Glasgow Fort (here), two amazing events with my favorite shopping centre St Enoch Centre (here and here), trying out an amazing new burger restaurant at The Quay (here), getting to review and escape room and laserquest, two things I've been desperate to try for years (here), and getting my hair pampered and styled thanks to Rainbow Room International and Dyson (here)! I'm so grateful for every collaboration I work on, so in 2018 I really want to build on these relationships and hopefully earn the chance to explore more new opportunities as my blog improves.

Keeping Social

Social media is another area where my blog has taken a hit when my posting schedule did, meaning that my social media accounts were rarely updated, and I lost some of my engagement with my followers, and on my blog. So to work on that, I've already been making sure to keep my social medias updated more regularly towards the end of 2017 and into 2018. This year I'm going to aim to to keep all of my social medias more active and updated regularly, especially Facebook as I feel like I only updated my Facebook when I post new blog posts, so I want to work on keeping it active outwith with just blog updates.

Goals In Numbers

With those goals in mind, I want to set a few goals in numbers that I hope to reach by the end of 2018. I like to have targets in numbers, so I've set a few that I think and hope I can reach over 12 months.
