My Updated Holy Grail Face

As a beauty blogger and a makeup lover, over the years I have accumulated a lot of different products. Some work for me, some don't. Some are high end, other are drugstore. In In the four years I've been blogging, I've tried out a lot of products, but there are certain products in my collection that I always find myself coming back to, no matter how much I love the other products that I try. In this post, I want to share with you my (updated) holy grail products.

Here on hiyaitsashley, I have already done a holy grail post, which you can read here. However, that post was at the end of May in 2016, and since then only around 3-4 of the 15 or so products has stayed the same, so it's time for an update. I still like some of the products mentioned in that post, but for most, I have found ones that I love more.

Primer is one of those products that once I find a really good one that works for my skin and does what I need it to do, I stick with it. Last year I picked up the Benefit POREfessional Matte Rescue Gel, which has been one of the ones that I have been reaching for a lot. The primer is a matte primer that minimizes the appearance of pores and dries down matte. It doesn't leave my skin we or oily feeling, and it's not super tacky. One of the things I love most about this primer is the formula. It's a water-based gel formula, which means it is super smooth and hydrating, and I have found that it has a cooling effect on the skin when it's applied. The product comes out of the tube a pale blue colour, but it doesn't leave the face blue. Another primer that I have been loving lately is the Wonderland Studio Finish Primer. The product is a clear, lightweight primer that minimizes pores. It has the same silicone-like texture that primers like the Benefit's POREfessional have, but personally, I think it's a little more smoothing and lightweight.

Foundations are one product that I pretty much always go high end with. I find that most drugstore foundations don't suit my skin, and so far all my most loved ones are high end. My holy grail foundation is a high end one, the Kat V Don 'Lock It' foundation. I love this foundation so much, it's crazy. I love a high coverage foundation, and this definitely gives me that. It's full coverage, but still feels incredibly lightweight, and doesn't get cakes. The shades also go light enough for my skin tone and have enough undertone options that I have a perfect shade match. One of the big things that I love about it, is that it doesn't oxidize, at all! On those days where I don't want as full coverage a look, my holy grail drugstore foundation is the NYX High Definition Studio Photogenic Foundation. This foundation is a bit more liquidy and sheer coverage than the Kat Von D one but that is part of why I like it. It's still a pretty good medium coverage, and it is buildable without being cakey. It is one I have repurchased and will keep using unless I find a better drugstore option, which I doubt as I love this one.

I've tried a lot of concealers in the last few years, some I have loved, others have been just okay. My new holy grail concealer is the one I swear by, and that is the Kat Von D 'Lock It' concealer. This concealer is incredible, and ever since I got it I haven't tried or used any other concealers. The formula is full coverage and blends like a dream. The shade range is great too, as I was able to get one that was a shade lighter than my foundation, and brightens my under eyes perfectly. The formula is very high coverage but doesn't cake up on my skin. It also blends in with foundations without lifting the products underneath or just sitting on top.

For powders, this is one of the products that has stayed the same for me since the last post. That powder is the Rimmer translucent Stay Matte pressed powder. As far as powders go, this one is pretty great. It sets the face and doesn't look cakey. However, there is one other powder I have tried that I love, and that is the Make Up Forever Ultra HD loose powder. This powder was one that I picked up for baking under my eyes and around the face. The product is so finely milled and soft, that I don't actually like it for baking, instead I love it to brush all over the face lightly to set my base. It is incredibly finely milled so it melts into the skin beautifully and it makes my skin feel incredibly soft.

For bronzer, the product that is my holy grail is the Benefit Hoola Lite. This product only came out around summer of last year, but it was one that I knew I had to get my hands on. As someone with very pale skin, a lot of the bronzers I tried were too dark for me. I really liked the classic Hoola but it was too dark, and even my beloved Too Faced Chocolate Soleil was a little too dark at times, so when this one came out I was pretty sure right away I would love it, and I was right. The shade is light enough that I can bronze my skin with it for a nice warm look, but not so warm that it looks muddy and unblended. It is perfect for those out there like me with a very light skin tone.

For blusher, my holy grail product has stayed the same since last time, and that is the Benefit Hervana blusher. I have loved this blush ever since I first tried it and I still love it to this day. It is the perfect wash of rosy pink for my pale skin, without looking like clown cheeks. It's super soft and blendable, and since the blusher is a mix of shades and not a straight up pink in the box, it gives a lovely light wash but is still buildable if you want a bit more of a bright pink. I love how this product looks on my skin.

Highlighter is one of the products that I buy most of, I love glow. In my last holy grail post I declared my love for the Balm's MaryLou Manizer, and while I do still love her dearly, she's got some competition. My current holy grail highlighter is from Urban Decay, and it is their Afterglow 8 Hour Highlighter in the shade Sin. This highlight is incredible, it glows o the heavens and it blends light a dream. It's perfect. In this little segment, I also want to give a nod to my beloved Benefit Watt's Up cream highlighter. 99% of the time I wear highlighter, I pop some of this little beauty underneath, and ti just makes any highlighter pop that little bit extra. It blends like a dream and for me, it sits really well on top of other products without moving them around, even if my face has already been set with powder.

For eyebrows, there are a few products that have become my holy grail's, so I'm going to mention them all. Spoiler, every one of these items is from the Benefit brow range, it is incredible. First up is the Browvo Conditioning Primer. I got this product because it was said not only prime your eyebrows for products and extend the wear time but also to help condition your brows to help them look thicker, fuller and healthier. I was skeptical, but oh my god, it worked. I 100% believe that the use of this product has been what has helped my eyebrows to not only appear fuller but to actually grow better and fuller too, as well as of course, extending the wear time of my other products.

Gimme Brow is next up. I love this product so much, it is so quick and simple to brush through my brows, and give them a bit of colour, and some hold for when I stile and fill them in. It doesn't feel heavy or sticky on my brows, and it doesn't go dry or crusty throughout the day either. It helps keep my brows in place all day too, and if you had naturally shaped and full, brows, it would be perfect to wear on it's on for a plush looking brow. I don't have naturally bushy or styled brows, so after I brush through some of this little gem, I move onto to filling in my brows with another of my holy grail's, the Precisely My Brow Pencil. Back in 2016, I did a whole post talking about how much I loved the Goof Proof Brow (which you can read here), and while that is still a huge favourite of mine, a little while later I came across the Precisely My Brow Pencil and fell in love. Thanks to the primer, I noticed my brows had grown in thicker and fuller, so this pencil was perfect. It was thinner and allowed me to just fill in the sparser areas towards the til, and any gaps in the brow.

Eyes And Lips

When I did this post back in 2016, eyeshadow wasn't a step in my make up routine that bothered with, as I have hooded eyes and I wasn't very good at it. Fast forward 2 years and eyeshadow palettes are overflowing my collection. For an eyeshadow primer, my holy grail product is a MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in the shade Soft Ochre. This was a product I tried out after sein NikkieTutorials use it in almost every video, and I'm so glad I did as I swear by it as an eyeshadow primer. It works perfectly with every eyeshadow palette I've used with it, and it keeps my eyeshadow creaseless and in place until I take it off.

For actual eyeshadows, there are 2 palettes and 1 eyeshadow pot that are my holy grails. The first is the Kat Von D Shade and Light eye contour palette. If you read my blog or follow me on Instagram, you know how much I love this eyeshadow palette. It is my go-to for natural looks, it has the perfect creamy shade for setting my eyeshadow base, and it is an around fantastic palette. The pigmentation is amazing and the shadows blend like a dream, I love it. The next 2 items are from Tarte, and I go into more depth on these items in my Tarte Haul, Swatches and Recommendations post (you can read that here), so if you want all that good stuff you can head over there for a mini review. The first one is the Tartlette palette, which I think is just as incredible as my Kat Von D palette, but I feel like it has more shade variety, and that the pigment is just insane on these, si for that reason they are a definitely holy grail of mine. The last item is the Chrome Paint Shadow Pots. These are some of my favourite shimmer shadows I have ever used from any brand. They are creamy and apply like a dream, a tiny amount goes a long way, and the colour payoff is phenomenal. They come in single pots and are a little pricey, but I think they 110% worth every penny. If you love shimmer, these are for you.

Eyeliner is something that I haven't really been wearing much recently as I have yet to find one as I'm not the best at winged eyeliner, so I have yet to find one that is super simple to work with and stays put all day that I'm 100% in love with. The best one I have found so far that is my holy grail, for now, s the Too Faced Sketch Marker in black, as it is a felt tip so it is quite easy to use if you're not the best with eyeliner. As long as I'm wearing eyeshadow not have set my bare lids, I find that this product stays ut really well, and doesn't give me panda eyes either which is a bonus!

In the last post I dubbed Benefit's Rollerlash as my holy grail mascara, and to this day I still stick by that, as it works wonders for my small, straight lashes, It makes them nice and black, and gives them a beautiful curl. However, last year I purchased the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, and that has definitely become my favourite for volume and getting that thick, rich black lash. The only issue I have with the Too Faced on is that it doesn't give any curl to my lashes, so I find that applying one coat of both the Better Than Sex and the Rollerlash to each eye gives me everything I want, rich black lashes, with great volume and a lovely curl.

For lips, my holy grail products recently have been the Kat Von D Everlasting Lip Liner pencils, paired with either her Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks or the Too Faced Melted Mattes. the Kat Von D liners are incredible, they are pigmented and so creamy, so they don't tug or dry out your lips, but they also don't smudge and bleed which is great. They also come in a twist up style pencil, so no sharpening is needed! For me, both the Kat Von D and the Too Faced liquid lipsticks have a similar formula. I find that both are super pigmented and last exceptionally long on the lips. They are both incredibly comfortable to wear and apply smoothly and cleanly. The reason both are my holy grails is because of those reasons, as well as the shade ranges. I love that I can get beautiful dark tones from Kat Von D, and some stunning nudes and classic shades from Too Faced.

Of course, no holy grail post would be complete for a quick shoutout for the setting spray that has yet to be beaten for me, the Urban Decay All Nighter. This has always been my favourite setting spray, and in 4 years I have yet to find one I like as much or more.

What are your holy grail products? Do you have any recommendations for me?
