2018: A Year In Review

Happy New Year! Since it is the 1st of January today I thought the best way to welcome in 2019 would be to take a look back at 2018 and all of the amazing things that I achieved and all of the good things that happened!

2018 was a great year for me personally and a lot of great things happened, for me, for hiyaitsashley, in my life and my education. Really, all around it's been one of the best year's of my life so far, so I wanted to share some of my 2018 highlights here. Start as you mean to go on, as they say!

One of my best decisions of 2018 was definitely made back in January when I joined up with my local gym and started going usually twice a week, as well as starting on a new and fairly strict diet. I did this for a few reasons but the main one was wanting to make a positive change in how I looked and felt. I just wasn't very happy overall with how I looked or my body, so aro weund this time last year I decided that one of my personal goals for the year would be to get more fit to healthy, so I'm glad that I did. I made really good progress with my gym journey and I'm really proud of everything that I achieved. I was looking a lot better, feeling a lot better, I had more energy, motivation, and confidence - I even lost almost 2 stone! Once I decided to go back to university I just got far too busy to have the time for working out, but with my degree being a Masters  now, I figured as much! So going forward into 2019, I'm going to be doing my best to get back into a workout routine that fits into my university schedule, and get back to eating better!

Speaking of university, I graduated from my university degree back in June! I graduated with a 2:1 Bachelors degree with Honours in Communication, Advertising and Public Relations. This one I am beyond proud of, as ever since leaving college there was always a small part of me thinking that a dissertation was going to be the most difficult part of my degree and that I'd end up with a rubbish degree classification! But as it turns out, my dissertation was my absolute favourite part of the entire course, I got a great mark on it and with all of my efforts in other classes in those two years I ended up with my 2:1, definitely the biggest highlight of my year, and one of the proudest moments of my life so far! Fingers crossed that this time next year I'll be sitting here writing all about how well I did to graduate from my Masters degree in Marketing!

Back in summer I decided to go back to university and study my masters in Marketing so I applied to Glasgow Caledonian University and in July I got the email to say I got in! After graduating I never thought that I would go back into education, but looking back now I can confidently say that going back to get my masters was one of my best decisions of 2018! I met some amazing people that I am glad to now call my friends and I've got to study areas that I find truly interesting. Being back has also reaffirmed where I want my career to be going, which is definitely into either PR (still one of my passions from before) or digital marketing.

Summer was an amazing time for me this year since it was one of the hottest Scottish summers on record, and I definitely took the opportunity to enjoy it. I spent a lot of time outside soaking up the heat, exploring new places and trying to get a tan! I got to visit Kelvingrove museum with my best friends after wanting to go there for such a long time. I sunbathed a lot listening to music and sit relaxing. It was great!

In August I went back to Go Ape, this time in Peebles, with my two younger sisters to review it for my blog. This was an amazing opportunity to have been offered again as the first I went was such an incredible experience, and it meant that I got to see some more of the beautiful country where I live.

In October, I went with my uni class up to Crieff to visit the Famous Grouse Experience which was amazing. As a Scot, getting to see some more of the country where I live and learning about how whiskey is made was a great experience for me! In that same month I also You published Halloweek on my blog, which was when I did 7 days of Halloween content on my blog, and I was so proud of that. Doing my masters means that I've been incredibly busy and not had too much time for blogging in the past month or two, so getting 7 days of content up back to back for one of my favourite holidays was a proud moment for me, and I was super proud of the content that I made!

Speaking of hiyaitsashley, this year my blog turned 4! That was a hugely proud moment for me because I love my blog and I take a lot of pride in it, so to see it still doing well after 4 years is incredible! My last post was looking at reviewing my blogging goals and everything that I've achieved on hiyaitsashley if you'd like to read more about that, you can find it here!

Last, but by no means least was the winter season last year. I spent a lot of time with my friends at the Christmas markets, spent my 23rd birthday at the George Square market with my best friend, and then finally saw the Edinburgh Winter Wonderland. I also had a fantastic Christmas this year with my family, celebrating, exchanging gifts and really just having a fantastic time.

So goodbye 2018, you were truly one of the best years of my life. I had a lot of ups, a lot of laughs and a lot to be thankful for.

And here's to 2019, I hope it s as fantastic as 2018 was!

What was the best part of your 2018? What do you hope 2019 has in store for you?
